Decorators

(U.K.)

Of English origins, the Decorators are one of the best teams. Their presence on the kite festivals enjoy as much the audience as the kitefliers themself. Their show is marvelous because of the complexity of the realized figures and for precision in flight.

The team were formed in 1988 and were named "The Deptford Decorators". The team are affectionately known as "The Decs". In 1989 the team started to fly two line kites, then quikly four line kites when "Revolution" kite appeared. From 1989 the team formed a close association with Jorgen Moeller Hansen, the Danish kite Designer and graphic Artist. Jorgen has collaborated with the team the distinctive graphics which feature on most of the kites that the team fly. Revolution, Rokkaku and Parafoil included.

It was in 1990 that the team started to travel extensively, mostly in Europe but also in Malaysia, South Africa, Israel, Canada and U.S.A.
The Dieppe people had the joy of seeing the team in 1998 during the acrobatic kite world cup.

The team consist of eight fliers. This allows some flexibility in travel.
A well done Decorators presentation requires 6 members. Felix Mottram, Jacob Twyford, Johnny Claffey, Andy Preston, Mark Eustace, Vaughan Meakins, Tom Greenfield et Nick Boothby are in the team currently.

Having said that, most of their performances are still informal. This is when they fly together during festivals that the Decorators often inventing new manoeuvres as they go.
These new ideas are often incorporated into formal presentations on the same day.
The audience can really get an understanding of the creative process at work.

Revolutions Kites, Shanti Kite Products and kite festival organisers have enabled the team to develop its project over the last years.
