in Dieppe France : 2002
For the first time, an acadian and official delegation was in Dieppe. As honorary guest, this delegation participed to the theme "Myths and Legends".
A very stirring experience
In 2002, the most of members of the acadian team discovered France. The majority of them had never been to a kite festival. This stay will be remembered as a good experience : meeting with their "dieppois cousins" and the other official delegations (35 countries), discovery of the most important kite festival in the world. This was enought to come back at home, after 10 days in Dieppe (France), their heart and the mind filled with souvenirs and nostalgia.
The Ghostship of Bouctouche Bay
By the fullmoon of August, Philippe and his dog played on the shore. Suddenly he saw on the horizon a big ball of fire coming towards him. He hid behind a rock. Philippe was scared. A three-masted ship appeared between the moon and the floods. Philippe stood up and ran to warn his mother.
On his way he met his cousin Emma. He explained her what he just saw, but she couldn't believe him. So they decided to go back to the place. They hid behind the rock. Fascinated by the light and by a barrel floating on the sea, Emma stood up and convinced Philippe to look.
Suddenly, they saw a woman getting closer to them. Lady Yolaine told her story to the children. She talked about a message. She said that she still loved her son and that she was looking for her grandchildren from Arcadia. She said that her and her husband had to let their son to a indian woman in order to meet the father of this woman on a ship. For the return trip, her husband had to hide her in a barrel because she wasn't allowed to travel on a royal vessel. Unfortunately, malcontent sailors organized a plot that costed his life to the captain. The lady stayed hidden in the barrel, until the day a violent tempest broke. The ship sank and she floated during centuries. Alone in her barrel, she vowed to execute her husband last wishes, to be giving to Arcadia children.
Emma calmed down Philippe who still was afraid. The beautiful Yolaine took from water a box from the lion mouth at the prow of the ship that she put at the children's feet. The lady went away into the fog letting a casket full of gold coins and jewels. Emma and Philippe went back home with pockets full of wonderful things.
