Marc Melanson and Ted Gaudet were present at the french festival in 2000.They were amazed by the sight of so many kites and excited by the contact with the kite fliers and the public. They decided to organize the same festival in Dieppe Acadie (New Brunswick).
As planned in the cooperation agreement (2001) between the two kite festivals, Sandrine Frébourg (Dieppe Capital of Kite) was present in Dieppe (Acadie) during three weeks prior to the event to help with the organization of the festival.
The first acadian festival took place in august 2001. An official delegation from Dieppe France came to Canada to take part in this first event
